Respect is an important part of the project; we will only deal with questions which we consider appropriate.
Our team is ready to be the first point of call for questions about religious belief and how it influences people’s lives.
They have promised to answer questions as quickly as their work allows.
Questions might be answered simply - or be the start of a discussion - it all depends on what is asked... and the answer given.
We hope you find ‘Email a believer’ helpful in your work in RE; it’s a real opportunity to make contact and ask questions which interest you.
It can also lead us to a better, shared understanding of religious belief and its practice.
Read the questions already answered by our team...
When emailing questions, please make sure that you write 'PoF Question for [the person's name]' in the subject line.
Dick Powell (Christian)
I've a degree in theology and trained as an RE teacher at Cambridge. After being a teacher of RE for many years in both Cambridge and the West Country, I then headed up a national project to recruit RE teachers. Recently I joined the Diocese of Truro as their Assistant Diocesan Secretary.
Hilary Blake (Christian)
I'm a Christian, and was brought up in the Anglican tradition, but now worship at a Methodist church. I am training to be a Methodist local preacher, which means that I am learning how to lead worship and preach in local churches near Oxford. I work for Christian Aid, which is a charity based in the UK and Irish churches that helps people in developing countries, regardless of their religion.
Jay Lakhani (Hindu)
My qualifications are in Theoretical Physics.
My real interest is in exploring links between religions and between science and spirituality.
Mindbreez (Buddhist)
I'm a Buddhist monk in the Thai Theravada tradition but British in nationality.
Most Buddhists are not monks, but monks are considered teachers and exemplars of Buddhists just as vicars might be considered teachers and exemplars in the Anglican Church.
Nasima (Muslim)
Currently I'm a Senior Lecturer in Liverpool, before that I was head of RE in a large multiracial inner city comprehensive. My research interests are the rise of faith schools and meeting the needs of multilingual pupils.
I worked for an education charity in the summer, teaching in disadvantaged communities in Africa - it was a challenging, life changing and totally inspiring experience.
Ranvir Singh (Sikh)
I'm Head of Religious Studies and Citizenship at Cranford Community College; also the author of several books and articles on the Sikh religion.
Zvi (Jew)
I'm a Sephardi Jew, married with four children now in their twenties and teens. A teacher by profession I was brought up in a broadly observant family. I had a wide ranging Jewish education and have lived and worked in both Sephardi and Ashkenazi communities both in Britain and abroad.
